Hardwood Flooring
Carpets Direct has access to a very wide
selection of custom hardwood flooring that is too extensive to list.
There are hundreds of species of
hardwoods that are used for flooring. The common species include Red and
White Oak, Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Pecan, Hickory, and Mahogany. Exotic
species include such woods as Brazilian Cherry, Merbau, Ivorywood,
Purple Heart, various Rosewoods, Brazilian Walnut, etc.
Carpets Direct provides prefinished
3/4" solid wood which is installed by nailing to a plywood subfloor.
However, in many instances it is possible to get prefinished engineered
custom hardwood floors which are installed by either gluing to a
concrete slab or nailing to a wood subfloor.
Whether you are looking for the industry
standard unfinished 3/4" X 2-1/4" Red Oak flooring or
unfinished 3/4" X 8" Brazilian Cherry flooring, we can provide
you with a product that is top quality at a great price.
At Carpets Direct we are very conscious
about maintaining our environment. Hardwoods are a renewable resource
and most of the woods used for flooring are obtained from tree
plantations or from sustainable forests.
When you get bids for custom hardwood
floors, there is one very important consideration: quality. You can get
very low prices and very high prices on a product, but what you don't
know is the quality. For example, 3/4" X 2-1/4" Red Oak
flooring is available in many different grades and from many different
areas. Southern Red Oak is less expensive but it is softer because the
trees grow faster in the warm South. Also it generally has more dark
mineral streaks, especially the wood grown in the swampy areas. On the
other hand, Northern Red Oak grows slower because of the colder weather
and therefore it is a denser and harder wood. Northern Red Oak makes a
makes a more harder and more durable floor but it is more expensive
because it grows slower, there is a limited logging season, and
production costs are higher in the North. Sometimes people are looking
for oak floors that have more character such as mineral streaks and
knots and get the additional benefit of a lower cost floor. If we know
what you're looking for, we can get you the right product.
Because of these factors, a low price on
solid hardwood does not always mean that it is a good buy for you. You
may be getting flooring that isn't the look or quality that you desire.
At Carpets Direct we will specify the source, quality, and appearance of
the material, so that you know what you are getting. Also, you will find
that besides great quality, you'll get the best price possible.
While many people think that exotic
always means expensive, there are many exotic hardwoods that are similar
in cost to Oak, Maple, and Cherry. We have one line of exotics that is
very affordable. These floors are available in prefinished and
unfinished solid wood and pre-finished and unfinished engineered wood.
